Dante's Inferno

Over the span of 10 weeks we will closely read  selected episodes from The Inferno by Dante with  his own poet-guide, Virgil, will introduce us to the harrowing architecture of eternal punishment.   You will meet many characters in the fiery abyss and learn why they got there and how their respective sins are expiated.

Dante Aligieri, the greatest Christian poet, finds himself in the midst of his life’s journey. Writing this epic poem in the 14th century, he  imagines that the only way out of his impasse is through the funnel-pit of hell (Inferno) , onto the mount of purgatory (Purgatorio) , and finally, into the empyreal paradise (Paradiso).

Together this monumental epic became known as the  The Divine Comedy (Divina Commedia ).
